The ice storm in December provided breathtaking visuals for photographers. Some trees on the other hand, as they tried with all their natural might to provide the picture perfect moment, would get crushed under the frozen weight and come crashing down to the ground.

In the Tuesday Jan. 7th edition of The Lawton Constitution, City of Lawton Public Works Director Jerry Ihler told the the daily publication that the city has begun receiving calls from residents needing relief from the fallen wooden debris.

The city will provide services to pick up wooden debris beginning Jan. 13. The Constitution states that the solid waste collection division already has a list of 43 residents needing service. Additional residents can put their names on the list by calling the division office at 580.581.3413.

Public Works officials have stated that the wood does not have to be cut and stacked but that branches/trees should be no longer than 10 feet.

Ihler also stated that would should be placed near the curb in the front yard free from surrounding obstacles.

The publication states that residents have until Jan. 17 to call in their addresses to the solid waste collection division. According to Ihler the division will be responding to individual complaints and will not be sweeping through neighborhoods as they do during city-wide cleanup campaigns. Due to this pickup may take several weeks.
