This morning on Classic Country we will turn back the calendar and revisit the grate songs of 1965.  So what else was going on that year?  Well Americans were still upset that we weer involved in the conflict in SE Asia which would become the bloodiest nightmare in military history better known as Viet Nam.  There were riots in the Watts section of LA that left many parts of the city burning and 34 dead.  Martin Luther king held a Civil Rights March in Alabama and the space race was really getting heated up.

On the television, we could watch one of three channels (4 or 5 if you lived in a major city) and we were jockeying to see the adventures of Flipper or what was going to happen next to the castaways on Gilligan's Island, maybe then we could see how cantankerous Uncle Bub was going to be on My Three Sons.   Then the evening would find us taking a trip down Route 66 looking for adventure with The Man From U.N.C.L.E or getting a laugh or two from Hogans Heroes and Benny Hill.

When people had time, they went to the movies and checked out Mary Poppins and the Sound of Music with Julie Andrews, Goldfinger and What's New Pussycat were other big hits in 1965.

Things were a lot cheaper back then.  Gas was only .31 a gallon.  That meant we could go to the store and pick up a loaf of bread for .21 a loaf and a gallon of milk was .95.

And the whole time we driving around in the car we're listing to great country songs like "Make The World Go Away" by Eddy Arnold, "This Is It" by Jim Reeves,  Del Reeves was belting out "Girl On The Billboard" or maybe turning to another station and hearing George Jones  "The Race Is On" or singing along with Porter Wagoner's "Green Green Grass of Home."    Still cruising to Buck Owens "I've Got A Tiger By The Tail or maybe counting the "Flowers on the Wall" with the Stater Brothers and snapping our fingers with Roger Miller and "King of the Road."

You will hear all of these and more starting at 6am this morning.  Hope you 'll join me with your coffee and get your Saturday off to a good start!
