Colt Ford and John Anderson Re-Record ‘Swingin” for New ‘Super Zeroes’ Movie

A new version of the John Anderson classic ‘Swingin” appears in the upcoming movie ‘Super Zeroes.’ The legendary country singer re-cut the song with Colt Ford and created a song that truly blends the two singer’s unique styles. During an interview shared exclusively with Taste of Country, Ford and Anderson explain the history of the song and the new recording.

Ford was in high school when ‘Swingin” was released on the ‘Wild and Blue’ album in 1982. Anderson explains that his label didn’t want to release it as a single, but after it was racing up the charts as an album cut, they gave in. The timeless lyrics have been covered multiple times — including a version by LeAnn Rimes — but none come close to the recreation which these two men put together.

“To me it’s exciting for those kids who know the song, but don’t know the man John Anderson,” Ford tells Anderson. Anderson’s lyrics are familiar, but not a carbon copy of his original. Ford adds his funky, spoken word styling to two new verses that ride over a hardcore beat.

There seems to be genuine appreciation by each singer for the other, and Ford shares that after re-cutting ‘Swingin’,’ he and Anderson became fast friends. Look for the song on the soundtrack to ‘Super Zeroes,’ a flick about two brothers whose lives dramatically change after a meteorite crashes into their house. It’s a superhero movie for the country boy, and it will be released to stores and iTunes the same day as the soundtrack, February 19.
