Campbell was the label’s top-selling artist, and when Bigger Picture closed, he along with Ryan Kinder, Blackjack Billy, Rachel Bradshaw, Smithfield, Chelsea Bain and Chris Janson, lost his label home. Even though it’s tough news to deal with, Campbell tells Sam Alex of Taste of Country Nights that he’s being supported by lots of friends — both in radio and within the music industry.
“People are concerned and they call and they check up on me,” the ‘Keep Them Kisses Comin’ singer says. “It’s good to have friends in the business.”
He says that several friends in radio (including ToC Nights) have said they will continue to broadcast his music regardless of the label, and recounts conversations which have gone something like this: “Man, you listen. Don’t worry about the song. It’s a hit song.We love you, we’re going to keep playing [‘Keep Them Kisses Comin”] … label or not, we are behind you 100 percent.”
While Campbell adjusts to life without a label and makes plans for the future, he has some exciting things to look forward to: cornhole.
Last year, he hosted the first annual Craig Campbell Celebrity Cornhole Challenge benefiting T.J. Martell Foundation’s colon cancer research efforts. He plans to do it again this year, since last year was such a success, raising almost $20,000.
The fundraiser is near and dear to the country singer’s heart, as his father passed away at the young age of 36 due to colon cancer. Lee Brice, Jerrod Niemann, Parmalee, and Chase Rice will be joining him for the bean bag tossing event.
Look for Campbell at Country Jam in Colorado this summer. The three day festival runs June 19-22.
Sam Alex is the host of Taste of Country Nights radio, a syndicated night show which airs on more than 50 Townsquare Media Group stations nationwide.
