"Something in the Water" is Carrie Underwood's first release from her greatest hits album, Greatest Hits: Decade #1. The song was released on September 29, 2014, as the album's lead single through Sony Music Nashville. It was written by Carrie, Chris DeStefano, Brett James and produced by Mark Bright.

A crossover success, "Something in the Water" reached No. 1 on both the Billboard Hot Country Songs and Hot Christian Songs charts. It is Underwood's 14th career leader on Hot Country Songs and her second in 2014. It set and broke multiple airplay records on Country radio in its first week. The song received acclaim from music critics.
On December 5, 2014, the song received a Grammy nomination for Best Country Solo Performance.

I personally think this is a very powerful song. It makes my heart smile with joy and my eyes fill with tears. Some of my favorite lyrics are:

Couldn't fight back the tears so I fell on my knees
Saying, "God, if you're there come and rescue me."
Felt love pouring down from above
Got washed in the water, washed in the blood
and now I'm changed....And now I'm stronger

And now I'm singing along to amazing grace
Can't nobody wipe this smile off my face
Got joy in my heart, angels on my side
Thank God almighty, I saw the light

This song is also part of our Country Song Showdown. Carrie is taking on Eric Church and his new song Talladega. I am an Eric Church fan but I think Carrie wins this one hands down. You can vote for your favorite here. (Oh! and did you see the size of her ring! Click here if you didn't! WOAH!)
