David Nail Shares Track-By-Track Insight Into New Album, ‘Fighter’
David Nail dropped his fourth studio album, Fighter, on Friday (July 15). The 11-track record, which features guest appearances by the Brothers Osborne, Vince Gill and others, includes seven songs written or co-written by Nail, giving an intimate look into some of the highs and lows of his life over the past few years.
“We worked longer and harder than we’d ever done before,” Nail recently told The Boot and other reporters about recording his new set of tunes. “[My wife] Catherine and I were getting ready to try and have a baby for the fourth year in a row, so I definitely wanted to spend some time at home and reconnect, and try to get my wits about me.”
It had been two years since Nail’s last album, 2014’s I’m a Fire, was released, but the singer admits that he didn’t start thinking about songs for another project until he wrote “Fighter” and “Home” within a period of about 10 days. That’s when he reached out to his longtime producer, Frank Liddell.
“That’s really when the whole thing was kind of born,” Nail adds. “Frank’s a genius on a lot of levels.”
