In one of the most anticipated and unusual duet pairings in recent memory, Dolly Parton teamed with pop superstar Katy Perry for a special performance at the 2016 ACM Awards.

The duo sang Parton's hits "Coat of Many Colors" and "Jolene." The first recognized the NBC movie of the same name winning the Tex Ritter Award, and the second found Perry taking lead. Stars like Kacey Musgraves and Kelsea Ballerini were visibly moved by the collaboration, which came after Parton accepted her award and talked a bit about her life story, the film's background and her cast.

"9 to 5" was the final song of the three-song medley. Parton's familiar quiver and Perry's throaty pop stylings were an unusual match, but the live audience loved it. Both shook their tush toward their end as colors matching their colorful lamé outfits flashing on the screens around them. A standing ovation was the only possible response.

Though the two might not appear to have a lot in common musically, they're birds of a feather in other ways, since both are among the most colorful and unusual performers in their respective genres.

The Tex Ritter Award recognizes movies released or having received major exposure in the previous calendar year that utilize or feature country music prominently. Parton's Dolly Parton's Coat of Many Colors is one of several that Parton is slated to produce for television based on her life and music, with another currently in the works based on her classic hit, "Jolene."

The unstoppable country music legend also recently announced her first headlining North American tour in 25 years. The tour, which will feature stripped-down arrangements, will accompany a double album titled Pure & Simple with Dolly’s Biggest Hits, which will include new material in addition to a compilation of Parton’s biggest hits.

“We’re so excited to get out there and see the fans again,” Parton says. “I’m really looking forward to singing songs the fans have not heard in a while, as well as the hits, while debuting a few new ones off Pure & Simple.”
