An East Texas volunteer firefighter lost his job after praising Charleston shooter Dylann Storm Roof in a Facebook post.

Kurtis Cook, who worked for the Mabank Volunteer Fire Department, allegedly posted on a South Carolina newspaper's Facebook page that Roof "needs to be praised for the good deed he has done," according to KLTV.

Roof admitted to killing nine people at a Charleston African Methodist Episcopal Church last Wednesday night.

Cook's post was soon widespread on social media, and many people contacted the Mabank VFD, demanding he be fired. The fire department soon released this statement:

As of 1123 hrs, after an investigation in the allegations being made of Firefighter Kurtis Cook, the Mabank Fire Department Command Staff has terminated Kurtis Cook as a volunteer firefighter permanently and has trespassed him from all Mabank Fire Department property. The Mabank Fire Department does not condone nor promote these type of actions or thoughts. On behalf of all members, the Mabank Fire Department offers our deepest apologies to all that were offended by his actions and comments.

This is further proof that anything posted on social media can soon become national news. Cook's story spread to hundreds of news outlets.
