Additional Information

The 2014 Tour de Meers is less than a month away!!! This is the one and only fund-raiser for the Meers Volunteer Fire Department in beautiful Meers, Oklahoma. This bicycle ride features 5 routes, all with beautiful views of the Wichita Mountains, 3 of the routes go through the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. In addition to servicing the Meers area, we provide mutual aid to the other neighboring volunteer fire departments. The terrain in our area is rough, therefore wear and tear on our equipment is great. Most of our vehicles are very used, thus maintenance on them is on-going and very expensive. From June 2013 to present we spent approximately $10,000 on repairs and maintenance on vehicles; $1355 on fuel; we have to heat our building during the winter so the water in the trucks won't freeze, Propane $4516; Communication for our firefighters, $2000; Firefighting gear which is very expensive, $3274; Building repairs and maintenance, $3300. ALL of our firefighters are volunteers. Most have full-time jobs. Unfortunately we expect another very bad fire season. Your support of our event is more than appreciated. In the past we have had riders from all over the United States, from Wahsington, Oregon, to Delaware and Rhode Island and many states in between. Come join us on May 24th.
