While mud is best known for a little dirty fun in Oklahoma, it's the technical trail systems that off-road activists seek. While it's hard to come across places like these in the Sooner State, there are some recreational areas for the hard-core wheelers.

First on the list, and more than likely the first to show up on a Google search is Arbuckle Off-Road Park. While they currently list most activities for side-by-sides and four-wheelers, there are a slew of built trucks, Jeeps, and buggies on their sites. Now, it's they type of destination where prior planning pays off. It doesn't have a listed normal schedule, but rather certain weekends they open the trails up. While they do have an official webpage, the Arbuckle Off-Road Park facebook is more active. It's about two hours from LFS.

If climbing hills and navigating wooded trails are more your speed, Big Red Offroad Park is another highly recommended place in the community. It's about the same distance from LFS, but it's located near Macomb, just East of Oklahoma City. Along with a challenging trail system, steep hills, and deep mud, there's also an off-road drag strip in case you feel like breaking something for bragging rights. As with anything awesome, there is a catch. Instead of day passes to this park, you must become a member. I'll be honest, the yearly dues aren't cheap, but it takes a lot of money to upkeep such an extensive park. All the details can be found on the official Big Red website and on facebook.

Last but certainly not least, there is the so called 'Granddaddy of them all' Hogan's Off-Road Park in NE Oklahoma. If you're an off-road type person, you might not recognize "Hogan's", but you will have definitely heard of Disney, OK. It's slick hills, deep water, sticky mud, and a crawlers paradise. From what I've heard, it's the one destination for those who spend tens of thousands on their buggies.

Big horsepower, massive tires, and linked suspension rule these slick hills, but that doesn't mean your 'almost stock' Wrangler wouldn't be able to have a little fun. I know my buddies used to take their budget crawlers out there, and they always had a blast. The best part is, it's open year round, though they do have an occasional weekend event. As far as I can find online, the off-roading is included in your daily camping price. Here's the Travel OK site with basic info, and you can always reach out to Hogan's Off-Road Park on facebook. Be sure to plan around your travel, it's about four hours from home.
