Family Makes Million Dollar Find In Attic

The old saying is "you can't judge a book by its cover." You don't know what's on the inside, simply by looking at the outside.

Never has the saying been so true than in the case of an old paper bag recently found by a family that was cleaning out the house of a family member that had passed away. What they found inside the bag seemed at first unbelievable to even professionals, but it may net the family more than a $1 million. Baseball card experts have confirmed that what the family found was 7 identical, mint condition Ty Cobb baseball cards, dating from the printing period of 1909 to 1911.

The T206 set of cards, printed between 1909 and 1911, also known as 'White Boarders", were printed by the American Tobacco Trust. The Cobb card is the second rarest of the 520 card set, behind only the Honus Wagner card, which was discontinued per Wagner because he did not believe in the use of tobacco products. Only 7 Wagner cards are known to exist today, and a Wagner card in good condition recently sold for over $2.1 million. Prior to the find of the 7 Cobb cards, there were only about 15 known to still exist.

One expert says that the total worth of the whole cache should exceed $1 million. The family who discovered the cards in a neglected paper bag at the run-down house of a deceased great-grandfather has asked to remain anonymous. Publicist Donn Pearlman, who helped announce the finding, said that the only he is at liberty to say about the family is that they are from a southern state, and that the cards were taken to an expert in South Carolina for authentication.
