Former ’60 Minutes’ Commentator Andy Rooney Dies At Age 92

America has lost one of it most beloved broadcasters this weekend, just a month ago Andy Rooney gave his last commentary on the CBS Sunday evening show  60 Minutes and called it a career after being on 60 minutes since 1978 and doing 1,097 commentaries.

Andrew Rooney was born in Albany, New York, . He attended The Albany Academy, and later attended Colgate University in Hamilton in Upstate New York, where he was initiated into the Sigma Chi fraternity, until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in August 1941. Andy Rooney got the media profession in his blood early when he began his career in newspapers while in the Army when, in 1942, he began writing for Stars and Stripes in London during World War II.

After getting out of the Army, Andy Rooney started his career in radio and TV before making his way to  CBS as a writer for several shows including Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts, The Garry Moore Show and  The Twentieth Century then his big break came in 1978 when CBS asked him to do a weekly commentary for the show 60 Minutes that Rooney called "A Few Minutes with Andy Rooney"

In the segment, Rooney typically offered satire on a trivial everyday issue, such as the cost of groceries, annoying relatives, or faulty Christmas . In later years, his segments became more political as well. Despite being best known for his television presence on 60 Minutes, Rooney always considered himself a writer who incidentally appeared on television behind his famous walnut table, which he made himself.
