The unofficial end of Summer is rolling in this Labor Day Weekend. Traditionally the final weekend before kids across the country are all back in school, and the new normal settles in for the cooler temperatures. Here are some ways you can send Summer off with a bang this weekend. We put a list together to make it just a bit easier for you to choose!
The 4th Annual Cache School Education Foundation Benefit Recital will be held Thursday, August 31st from 7:00pm to 8:00pm. EVERYONE is encouraged to attend this FREE family friendly event! Come out for an evening of beautiful chamber music! The recital will feature Cache Schools very own music faculty, Ben and Kelly Silber; Cameron University(Yiuka Spannagel) and Lawton Public Schools Music faculty (Billy Spannagel) and Sandy Greene. Performances featuring the flute, clarinet, soprano and piano. The event is FREE. DONATIONS FOR THE CONCERT WILL BE TAKEN TO BENEFIT CACHE SCHOOLS EDUCATION FOUNDATION (CSEF). Each year, the CSEF provides a great number of scholarships to many students. Additionally, they support teachers by providing classroom grants. This is a family friendly event. The recital is Thursday, August 31st at 7pm in the Cache Schools Auditorium. The Auditorium sits south of the Cache High School at 102 East â€œHâ€ Ave in Cache!

Walters Volunteer Fire Department is hosting a golf scramble to benefit the Volunteer Fire Department beginning at 8am, Friday, September 1. Teams are just $140.
The live music will feature Cody Canada & the Departed, The Damn Quails, Brandon Jenkins, the Brad Good Band, the Rodney Whaley Band and The Casey Abbe Band. The FREE music kicks off at 1 pm and wraps up at 11 pm with a huge fireworks show! And Cody, the Quails and Brandon will be signing autographs in the casino after their shows! Southwest Sales - Coors Lawton will have Kegzilla onsite for your adult beverages! There will be numerous food trucks onsite too!Then on Monday 4 September we'll host a huge car show hosted by the Nokturnal Car Club with music all day from J&J Pro Audio! Come out and meet Tom Smith from Discovery Channel's show Misfit Garage and see the $300,000 1971 'Cuda owned by Jesse Matlock! Registration will be from 8 am - 12 pm and the awards are from 3 pm - 4 pm. Plus you can see Marty McFly aka Tyler Dunivan and a replica DeLorean from Back to the Future! And the Comanche Nation Casino will be giving away a 1965 Mustang at the end of the day!
For this Workshop the kids will be making homemade slime. This Workshop is a first-come-first-serve event. Once the supplies run out we will shutdown the workshop. This Workshop is geared towards school-aged children and is free to the public. Parents must stay with their kids and light refreshments will be provided. This Workshop is volunteer and we ask that the parents please clean up after their children.

In the land lottery of 1901, in which the federal government opened southwest Oklahoma for settlement, the second name drawn was that of Mattie Beal. Her home is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This 14 room, 2 story mansion is open to the public Thursday-Sunday from 12-3pm.
