1992  Garth Announces He's Taking A Break...Part 1

Garth Brooks announced he was canceling his world tour to spend time with his family. As his career flourished, Brooks seemed frustrated by the conflicts between career and family life. He talked of completely retiring from performing in 1992, in turn returning to the road after 8 months away. This was the first break Garth had taken since his breakthrough self-title album broke in 1989 and had just finished back-to-back tours in support of the albums Ropin' The Wind and The Chase.

This wouldn't be the last time that the constant touring would get to Brooks and force him to force himself to take time off. In 1995, he again cancelled parts of his world tour to regroup and spend time with his growing family. In 1999, Brooks would appear on the TNN's Crook & Chase and again hint at retiring from the business.

Then on October 26, 2000, while celebrating reaching the 100 million mark in total albums sold at a party thrown in his honor by his record company, Capitol Records, Brooks would drop the bombshell that would rock the country music world for almost 14 years...he was retiring from recording and performing.

Although he staged a few performances for promotional purposes, Brooks stated that he would be retired from recording and performing at least until his youngest daughter, Allie, turned 18. Despite ceasing to record new material between 2002 and (most of) 2005, Brooks continued to chart with previously recorded material, including a top 30 placing for "Why Ain't I Running" in 2003.

He has of course returned to recording and touring, recently kicking off his first world tour since 2000 and released his first news single in 8 years, "People Loving People."
