2007 Garth Becomes First Artist To Debut At #1
Garth Brooks' "More Than A Memory" becomes the first song to debut at #1 on not only Billboard's country singles list, but on any Billboard chart regardless of genre.
Written by Lee Brice, Billy Montana and Kyle Jacobs, it was Brooks' first single from his The Ultimate Hits collection and his first single in 6 years. It was also Brooks first #1 since 1998's "To Make You Feel My Love"
The song obviously set the record for the highest debut on the chart, but on the country chart the previous record had been set only the week before, by Kenny Chesney who debut at #16 on September 9th with "Don't Blink."
"More Than A Memory" remained the only song to debut in the top spot until August 27th of this year, when Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" debuted at the top of the Hot 100 Chart. Brooks remains the only artist to debut at the top of the Country chart.
2005
Dierks Bentley realizes his second gold album, for Modern Day Drifter. The album featured the singles "Lot of Leavin' Left to Do" (#3), and the #1 hits "Come a Little Closer" and "Settle for a Slowdown."
The album has sold more than 1.5 million copies to date.
2004
Alan Jackson’s album What I Do debuted at the top of both the country and pop charts after first week sales of 176,000 copies, making him only the third country artist to score three number one albums on both the country and pop chart.
The album featured the singles "Too Much of a Good Thing" (#5), "Monday Morning Church" *(#5), "The Talkin' Song Repair Blues" (#18) and "USA Today" (#18). The album has sold more than 1.3 million copies to date.

Everywhere We Go becomes Kenny Chesney's first multi-platinum album. It features the singles "How Forever Feels" (#1), "You Had Me from Hello" (#1), "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy" (#11) and "What I Need to Do" (#8).
1999
George Jones declined to perform at the Country Music Association Awards because the CMA asked him to sing a shortened version of his CMA Nominated tune Choices.
1987
Hank Williams Jr.’s album Born To Boogie was certified gold. The album featured the singles "Born To Boogie", "Heaven Can't Be Found" and "Young Country."

Roy Acuff was born on this date in 1903, in Maynardville, Tennessee. Proclaimed the King of Country Music, he becomes synonymous with the Grand Ole Opry following his 1938 debut. In 1962, he becomes the first living inductee in the Country Music Hall of Fame. He passed away in 1992 at the age of 89 of congestive heart failure.
