Iconic Grand Ole Opry member George Hamilton IV has been hospitalized after suffering from a "serious" heart attack.

On Saturday evening (Sept. 13), the Opry tweeted the news, asking for prayers for the 77-year-old:

The singer is apparently still in a Nashville area hospital, though details about his condition have not been released. Hamilton's friends have reached out on Facebook, asking for continued prayers for him, his wife and their three children.

Hamilton is a longtime Opry member, joining the iconic venue in 1960. The country singer started out as a teen idol in 1950s, but then transitioned over to country music in the '60s. He may be best known for his song 'Abilene,' which Chet Akins produced. Hamilton also released hits in 'Before This Day Ends,' 'She's a Little Bit Country,' 'Break My Mind' and 'If You Don't Know I Ain't Gonna Tell You.'
