As a result of flooding and storm damage from storms last month, assistance may be coming to several Oklahoma counties from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) according to Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin.

Governor Fallin stated Friday that under SBA rules, low-interest disaster loans for homeowners and business owners in Comanche County to replace any property damaged by the storm that was not covered by insurance or other assistance programs. The loan program is also available to assist businesses that sustained economic injury due to the storm.

Gov. Fallin has asked the federal government for a disaster declaration for six southern Oklahoma counties hit hard by severe storms and flooding last month.

Thursday's request seeks public assistance to help cities, counties, rural electric cooperatives and the state with infrastructure repairs and other costs associated with emergency response. The request includes Caddo, Comanche, Cotton, Garvin, Grady and Stephens counties. Fallin says the government has denied the state's request for individual assistance for Caddo, Comanche and Garvin counties.

Severe weather that began June 11 caused flash flooding that drenched homes, businesses and vehicles. Several bridges were washed away and some roads were made impassable. Authorities performed more than 150 swift water rescues. The storms caused about $6.7 million in damage and contributed to the deaths of two people.

Residents and business owners in those counties may apply for an SBA disaster loan online at https://disasterloan.sba.gov/ela. Disaster loan information and application forms are also available from SBA's Customer Service Center at the website, by calling 800-659-2955 or by e-mail.
