Thanksgiving. A day set aside from all other day that we give thanks. Yes we should give thanks everyday for all of the blessings that we have.

Yes, we are the most blessed nation on this earth. but most of the time we take it for granted. From a very young age, both my mother and father taught me and my siblings to be thankful for all we have and had received. I never fully realized just how important it was until I grew older.

The majority of us have a nice comfortable home to have a Thanksgiving meal with friends and family. While others are not sure where their next meal will come from. We have warm clothing to keep us comfortable as we go about our daily activities. Some will freeze this winter form lack of clothing.

We need to stop and be thankful for our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines. Many who are off in some foreign land protecting our freedom this day. Most will not have a traditional meal like we will have. We are a blessed nation because of their sacrifice.

Policemen and women, firefighters, EMT's these individuals are also on the front lines for us this day. We need to remember how blessed we are to have them protecting us as well.

We have all been blessed in one way or another since the last time Thanksgiving was here. That's 365 days ago. Have we really stopped and counted our blessings? There is an old church hymn called "Count Your Blessings, Name Them One By One." I have to stop and remind myself that this is so true.

Today as we gather around the table in my home, I am going to ask each person gathered to say at least one thing they are grateful for and how they have been blessed. Maybe one of the younger ones will observe and later on in their lives will reflect on how we shared our blessings naming them one by one.

I hope you and your family have a blessed and happy Thanksgiving.
