The Oklahoma School Counselors Association recently announced it's School Counselors of the Year, and Sterling High School's Katie Burk was named High School Counselor of the Year.

Sterling High teacher Brenda Huitt describes Burk as a special counselor who is involved in many activities and always has a smile and positive attitude. "She enjoys her job and truly cares about the students in her school", said Huitt.

Burk says she researches for effective ways to help students at Sterling High School become individuals of good character, adding that she wants her students to look forward to their guidance lessons.

Other awardees include Michelle Dodgen of Weatherford Middle School, named Middle School Counselor of the Year and Bobby Fields of Thomas Jefferson Elementary in Tulsa, named the Elementary School Counselor of the Year.

All three Counselors of the Year will be recognized at the 9th Annual Oklahoma School Counselors Association Summer Conference, to be held Thursday night, June 6th, at the Moore Norman Technology Center.
