Hillary Scott & the Scott Family made their debut on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry recently, and the family gospel harmony group also captured a very special performance of "Beautiful Messes" backstage in the Opry Lounge.

Scott and her family — including mother Linda Davis, who scored an iconic No. 1 hit with "Does He Love You," her duet with Reba McEntire — perform the song from their debut album, Love Remains, in a very simple acoustic arrangement, with family patriarch Lang Scott playing acoustic guitar, accompanied by light percussion and mandolin. Scott takes the lead, with her mother, father and sister Rylee jumping in for some signature family gospel harmonies on the choruses.

The lyrics are not the kind of gospel lite that many country artists attempt, but rather an unabashed, full-on exaltation of the power of faith in Jesus Christ to affect change.

"We ain't perfect no / We ain't even close / We got holes in our hearts / We got scars we don't show / But all that baggage we / Keep on dragging around / Anytime we start laying it down / Lay it down at the foot of the cross / Give it to the one who can carry it all / Even at our worst, to him we ain't lost causes / Just beautiful messes," the group sings in the chorus.

They're accompanied on mandolin by Ricky Skaggs, who produced their album at his studio.

The group made their Opry debut on July 26, 2016, and they are set to return to the hallowed stage on Oct. 25 as part of Opry Goes Pink. The event will raise money for Women Rock for the Cure and the Nashville chapter of Susan G. Komen, to support finding a cure for breast cancer.
