It seems every year, as the temps get hot, ponds get pretty nasty. The same is true for Lake Helen in the North end of Elmer Thomas Park. Just look at the mess we had last year.

It's not any fault of the lake builders, this is just what happens to still bodies of water that get a ton of sunlight. So what's the solution? Well, the Oklahoma Wildlife Department has teamed up with the Lawton Parks Department to come up with that solution. Whether it was a manual harvest of that nasty stuff, the overstocking of fish that feed on such things, or a chemical treatment we don't know. It just looks pretty amazing this year, just in time for International Fest.
