Woman Conned Into Paying $180 for iPad That Was Just a Block of Wood
Ashley McDowell of Spartanberg, South Carolina probably thought she was a master negotiator when she haggled with two men a McDonald’s parking lot for a new iPad, getting the price down from $300 to $180. But when McDowell got home and opened the box, she instead found a plank of wood.
The con artists tried for realism by painting an Apple logo painted on the plank’s back and affixing replicas of icons for apps like Safari, mail, photos and an iPod.
Police have scanned the iPlank for prints, and are on the lookout for the thieves, who drive “a white Impala with no rims and no tint.” One of them also has a gold tooth, so if you see anyone who fits that description in a fast food parking lot DO NOT buy any Apple products from them.
