Well that's exactly what happened to Janie Fricke.  She had a duet with Johnny Duncan, 'Thinking of a Rendezvous', and sang back up to Charlie Rich 'On My Knees', but it wasn't until 1982 that she reached the top of the charts as a solo artist!  Here's the very first number one for Janie Fricke, 'Don't Worry 'Bout Me Baby', today's KLAW Classic.
