Jason Aldean was just one of the many performers taking the stage at the 2012 ACM Awards on April 1, and the country rocker performed his latest single off of ‘My Kinda Party,’ the midtempo anthemic track, ‘Fly Over States.’ As usual, Aldean, who won the ACM award for Vocal Event of the Year earlier for his collaboration with Kelly Clarkson, ‘Don’t You Wanna Stay,’ gave a great performance with his backing band.

For his ACM performance, Aldean pulled out all the stops when it came to stage design. Taking a literal approach from the lyrics, which are about flying over the Midwestern states and reflecting on the beautiful countryside and all of the people who reside there, Aldean sang in front of huge jet engines and plane propellers. Strumming his guitar and belting out the lyrics, Aldean created a whole lot of ambience as he stood front and center on the stage, which was illuminated like an airport runway.

Overall, Jason Aldean’s performance was strong and captivating — but seriously, when is this guy not good? He was born to perform, and his rousing performance of ‘Fly Over States’ at the 2012 ACM Awards was no acception. He is nominated for Entertainer of the Year, after all! But he has to beat out Kenny ChesneyBrad PaisleyBlake Shelton and Taylor Swift before he can claim that prize.
