I love country music today because of you daddy!

Some of the best memories of my Dad were when he walked into the house after work.  He didn’t really do anything special; he just filled up a room, any room that he was in.  My Dad was SFC Bobby L. Benefield.  Our family lost him to his battle with Cancer almost 20 years ago, but I still remember those days when my brothers and sisters and I were all young.

When Daddy came home, our days changed.  We were on our best behavior.  He was strict, but fair, and he always had a song on his lips.  Merle Haggard, Charley Pride, Marty Robbins were some of his favorite artists.  I guess that’s where I found my love for Country Music.  And man, did he smell good.  He would shave and splash on Aqua Velva singing, “There’s something about an Aqua Velva Man”.  It always made me smile.  It still brings a smile every time I think of it.

Father’s Day is a great time to remember the man that made every day special just by coming home.
