Justin Moore made some waves recently when he told CMT After Midnite he supported Donald Trump for the presidency. The singer knew it was a polarizing opinion, but he said he liked the mogul’s attitude of “winning” and his “out of the box” approach. He delved a little deeper into those comments with Taste of Country behind the scenes at the ACMs.

“At the time, Trump is my guy. I’m a Republican, and I think it’s gonna take something out of the box in order for them to win the presidency,” he explains matter-of-factly before adding a couple of qualifiers. "He’s gotta tone down some things, and I don’t know if this last week helped him."

The artist doesn’t seem to be gung-ho about any of the candidates, however.

"There's not a whole lot of good options to be honest with you,” he adds with a laugh.

Moore isn’t ashamed of anything he’s said so far, though, as he says he simply told the truth about what he thought, and his genuine nature is the reason he’s gotten where he is today.

“If you ask me a question you’re going to get an honest answer,” he says. “That’s why I have a career."

Moore also chatted about his upcoming album, which he says will be finished in about two weeks. He hopes to release it in early September. The record is expected to include a collaboration with Brantley Gilbert called “More Middle Fingers,” along with another one about which Moore stayed mum.

The singer is heading out on the road with Gilbert this summer as part of the Take It Outside Tour.
