Katie Austin is set to release her debut EP, Wild Child, and she's letting Taste of Country readers hear one of the new songs, "Nirvana," first in this exclusive premiere.

"Nirvana" takes a wistful look back at the first taste of freedom a young person experiences when they get their first car — in this case, a truck that made her feel like "I was Queen of the Road when I was in it."

"I'd be making friends with green and gravel / Buying keychains just to hear them rattle / Living off big dreams / Freedom and cheap gasoline / I'd be on a mission / Runnin' from nothin' / Goin' somewhere just because I love it / Full tank fill 'er up / Stirring up trouble and dust / I'd be that 16 kind of gone / Wearing out a '90s song / Yeah, I'd still be singing along / And livin' on Nirvana," she sings in the chorus.

The song evokes a certain type of nostalgia for Austin that she hopes to impart to her listeners.

"My favorite thing about 'Nirvana' is that no matter what your first set of wheels was ... a beat up truck or a shiny new luxury car ... it takes you back to that feeling of true freedom with the windows down and radio blasting!" Austin tells Taste of Country.

The Louisiana native placed in the Top 5 among thousands of entries in the Folgers 2017 Jingle Contest, which led to a mentoring session with Chris Young. Austin's debut single, "Broken Record," earned her a slot in the 2017 NASH Next competition, where she also placed in the Top 10. At the end of 2017, Austin's video for her original holiday song, "Wrap Me Baby," premiered on CMT, where fans voted it into the No. 4 spot on the CMT Music 12 Pack Countdown.

Austin has spent the last several years getting together the right group of songs for her debut EP, and she is set to release Wild Child on Nov. 2. The project is currently available for pre-order via iTunes and Apple Music.
