Keith Urban + More Cover David Bowie for Stand Up to Cancer [Watch]

Keith Urban, Little Big Town and Dierks Bentley joined together for a very special tribute to David Bowie on Friday night (Sept. 9) during the televised Stand Up to Cancer benefit.

The stars got together to pay musical homage to the legendary rocker with a jaw-dropping cover of "Heroes,' the title song of Bowie's seminal 1977 album. Bowie co-wrote the song with Brian Eno, and although it was not a big chart hit at the time of its release, it has gone on to become one of his signature songs and is widely regarded by rock critics as one of the greatest songs of all time. Rolling Stone ranked it 46th in the most important songs of all time, while Britain's New Music Express placed it fifth.

Bowie died from liver cancer on Jan. 10, 2016. Urban lost his own father to cancer earlier this year, and LBT’s Jimi Westbrook's sister passed away in November of 2016 after battling cancer. The stars give an exuberant, triumphant performance in the video above, breaking down the powerful song into a hand-clapping sing-along with the audience before bringing it to a close.

Urban, LBT and Bentley were part of a Stand Up to Cancer lineup that included Celine Dion. Ben Affleck, Matthew McConaughey, Emma Stone, Anna Kendrick, Josh Gad, Niecy Nash, Eric Stonestreet, Alison Sweeney, Ken Jeong, Marcia Cross, Greg Grunberg, Danielle Campbell, Charlie Wilson, Brittany Daniel and SU2C co-founder Katie Couric also appeared during the broadcast, for which Bradley Cooper served as executive producer.

“We all have a reason to stand up,” Cooper says in a press release. “Stand up to Cancer is a sustained movement that impacts millions of lives. We honor the personal stories that motivate individuals to fight, and that highlight the urgent need to get new methods of treatment to the patients who so desperately need them.”
