New ‘The Voice‘ mentor Keith Urban and his wife Nicole Kidman are rallying around a cause that has become a local movement in New South Wales, Australia. The couple recently posted a sign outside of their $6.5 million home in Southern Highlands showing their support for the grassroots anti-coal mining movement. Placed on the gates to their home, the sign reads “No Coal or Coal Seam Gas,” according to the West Australian.

The couple are just two in a group of people protesting a plan that would expand coal and gas mining in the area. Though the battle has been going on for a couple years now, this is the first time Urban and Kidman have come out and made a statement about their thoughts on the matter. According to the Australian newspaper the Southern Telegraph, the convener of the Southern Highlands Coal Action Group Peter Martin said that the celebrity couple stopped and talked about their concerns at a protest stall at the Moss Vale Farmers Market last month.

“We sold them the sign for $20 when they visited the Moss Vale Farmers Market one Saturday morning on their last visit here,” he told the newspaper. Urban and his family bought their NSW home in 2008, and it’s just one of more than 460 properties that fall within the area of the proposed coal-seam gas and coal mining undertakings.

Though the state government of NSW has made an effort to restrict the mining and coal-seam gas drilling by imposing tighter restrictions on drilling near certain agricultural land, homeowners and landowners in the area don’t feel those restrictions go far enough. We’ll have to wait and see if the ‘You Gonna Fly’ singer and his wife become even more vocal members of the movement as it continues to grow.
