Kenny Chesney turned 44-years-old on Monday, but abstained from the sins that typically befall a man his age. Actually, come to think of it, he did what most middle-aged men in America do — work.

“I’m in such training right now and I’m so anal about it to get ready for the tour that I’m not drinking any alcohol and I’m really watching what I eat,” Chesney tells One Country. In June, he kicks off his joint tour with Tim McGraw. “At some point, I’m going to have birthday cake and alcohol to celebrate my birthday, but I didn’t do it yesterday (March 26).”

In addition to the tour, Chesney will be releasing a new album on June 19 and filming a new music video in mid-April. He’s also reported to be debuting his new single at the 2012 ACM Awards on Sunday night (April 1).

“Once I get some of that stuff done, towards mid-April, I wanna have a big piece of birthday cake and a couple of drinks to celebrate my birthday,” he insists.

Monday wasn’t totally spent without close friends, however. Chesney did attend the 4th annual T.J. Martell Foundation Honors Gala in Nashville to honor music industry veteran Joe Galante. The gala raised over $400K for the foundations fight against cancer, leukemia and AIDS.
