Kenny Chesney returns to the top of the country singles charts this week with his latest hit, ‘Reality.’ The tune marks Chesney’s 23rd career chart-topper and the fourth from his current album, ‘Hemingway’s Whiskey.’ Previous No. 1 hits from that album include ‘The Boys of Fall,’ ‘Somewhere With You’ and ‘Live a Little.’

‘Reality’ is a song Chesney co-wrote with hit songwriter Brett James on the same writing trip that the two hashed out another No. 1 song for the singer, titled ‘Out Last Night.’ The concept for ‘Reality’ was an idea that Chesney had tucked away for some time, and things fell into place when he and James began writing that particular day.

“In Kenny’s perspective, he sees that every night at his shows … people come to his shows to escape reality,” James recently told Taste of Country. “We wrote this song on Kenny’s deck looking at the ocean at his island house. We were really trying to put ourselves in situation and find the escape in life. That’s where this song started.”

Coming up on the No. 1 position behind Chesney are hits from Dierks Bentley (‘Home’), Jake Owen (‘Alone With You’), Taylor Swift (‘Ours’) and George Strait (‘Love’s Gonna Make it Alright’). Chesney announced last week that he has a new album in the works, which is slated for a June 2012 release.
