I always thought that kissing the 'blarney stone' was for luck.  I was perfectly wrong.

The legend of the Blarney Stone comes to us of course from Ireland, and as the legend goes:

"The owner of the castle Blarney being involved in a lawsuit, appealed to Goddess Clíodhna for her assistance. She told MacCarthy to kiss the first stone he found in the morning on his way to court, and he did so, with the result that he pleaded his case with great eloquence and won. Thus the Blarney Stone is said to impart "the ability to deceive without offending."

Now, kissing the blarney stone is no small feat.  It requires assistance as the kisser must have someone to hold him/her as they lie on their back and dangle over a ledge to kiss the stone.  Perhaps the Sweethearts of the Radio should kiss the Blarney Stone for more eloquence?  Um, I can't speak for Nancy, but I think I will pass!
