The K-LAW 101 Saturday Classic was the #1 country song July 7th, 1973.  It was the only solo #1 for a guy who would become known as a prolific songwriter and a pretty good actor.

In the early 70's Kris Kristofferson was the toast of Nashville, having written some huge hits - songs like "For The Good Times", "Me And Bobby McGee", "Help Me Make It Through The Night" and "Sunday Morning Coming Down". He reportedly wrote "Why Me" during an emotionally low period in his life after having attended a religious service. The song features backing vocals by his soon-to-be wife Rita Coolidge, and an up-and-coming singer-songwriter named Larry Gatlin. From 39 years ago, enjoy "Why Me" from Kris Kristofferson.
