It’s been nearly a year to the day that Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery took the ‘American Idol’ stage together for the last time, but that doesn’t mean the Season 10 finalists have drifted apart due to their hectic schedules since competing on the popular reality competition.

During her May 22 tour stop opening for Sugarland at the historic Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, Alaina surprised fans by inviting her ‘American Idol’ pal onstage to perform the country classic, ‘When You Say Nothing at All.’ The love ditty was first made popular in 1988 by the late Keith Whitley, but the tune also became Alison Krauss‘ first (and only) solo Top 10 country single in 1995. Judging by the crowd’s reaction, a studio version from the Alaina and McCreery would fair equally as well at radio (watch video below).

Alaina will remain on the road with the ‘Stuck Like Glue’ duo for the remainder of summer. Her debut album, ‘Wildflower,’ was released last October and and sold an impressive 69,000 copies in its first week on the shelves. The album has produced two hit singles for Alaina, including the Top 30 ‘Georgia Peaches’ and her debut radio hit ‘Like My Mother Does.’

McCreery propelled to superstar status upon being named the ‘American Idol’ winner in 2011. His debut album ‘Clear as Day,’ which also dropped in October, has sold more than one million copies on the strength of two Top 20 singles, ‘I Love You This Big’ and ‘The Trouble With Girls.’ The North Carolina native is currently touring with Brad Paisley as opening entertainment for the superstar’s 2012 Virtual Reality Tour.

“@ScottyMcCreery it was great to see you last night(: thanks for coming ad singing with me!” Alaina tweeted Wednesday, adding, “You sounded great as always.”

Though they’re good friends now, the two will go head-to-head once again soon, both vying for the USA Weekend Breakthrough Video of the Year trophy at next month’s CMT Music Awards. Click here to vote.
