The 2013 Lawton Fort Sill Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women Outstanding Women of the Year event will take place in Lawton, Oklahoma, at City Hall on Friday, April 12, 2013.

The event will focus on several Comanche County women who have been nominated for their contributions that have helped improve the quality of life for women in the county. This annual event celebrates women and their efforts to improve services for women in Comanche County. Previous honorees include Dr. Linda Dzialo, for her dedication to education excellence; Barbara Burk, for her efforts to help women involved in abusive domestic situation; JoAnn Vangel, for her work with the Lawton Public Schools and promoting the needed improvements; and Tara Gilbert, for her work in the community through her ministry.
The Commission was created in 1989 to identify issued faced by women in the Lawton Fort Sill community, advise the Mayor and City Council of these challenges and seek remedies.
Members are appointed and approved by their City Council, County Representatives and the Mayor and comprise a cross-section of women from throughout Comanche County.
