Use of force, dive team, canine units and crime scene investigation will be just some of the subjects discussed, as the Lawton Police Department once again sponsors it's Junior Citizen's Police Academy. The Academy is scheduled June 26th through the 30th at the Greater Galilee Baptist Church, running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. Greater Galilee Baptist is located at 1428 SW Jefferson Avenue in Lawton.

The academy is designed to give teens an overview of a wide variety of police department topics, as well as developing open communications between youths and officers. Other topics to be explored include narcotics and gang units, bike patrol, use of force. officer safety and community relations. Several media will be used to train student, including lectures, videos and hands-on training.

Deadlines have passed for the upcoming class, but a second class is scheduled for July 17th to the 21st at the Impact Center, 2810 N. Sheridan Rd.

The deadline to apply for next week's academy has passed, but interested teenagers can apply for the next Junior Citizens Police Academy. It is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 17-21 at the Impact Center, 2810 N. Sheridan Rd. Contact the Lawton Police Dept. for more information about registration.
