Local songwriter Jason Tompkins is headed to a national songwriting competition this weekend. The Fletcher native and his singing partner Nan Massie will perform in Commerce, Texas Saturday night. Their journey started in February when Tompkins entered the local level of the competition hosted by Jerry's Music Emporium and presented nationally by The Songwriters.biz. He performed "Lack Of The Righteous," a song he wrote about personal struggles and faith.

From there he went into a pool of 30 winners from across the country. Online voting put Tompkins in the top 12, earning him a spot in the national competition Saturday night. See a list of the 12 finalists here.

Tompkins and and Massie stopped by our show this morning and performed their winning song for us LIVE.
