Oklahoma Gets More Funds To Help Homeless Veterans

Much need it funding has been awarded to the State of Oklahoma to help with the housing of homeless veterans. Three housing agencies in Oklahoma will split $381,311. The Department of Housinig and Urban Development officials said the money will supply permanent housing and case management for 90 homeless veterans. The government also added that the number of vouchers now in use is up to 345.

The additional funding will be split up as followed, with The Oklahoma Housing Finance Agency will receiving $146,172; $142,857 will go to the Housing Authority of the City of

Oklahoma City and the Housing Authority of the City of Muskogee is to receive $92,282.

Housing and Urban Development officials said the permanent supportive housing assistance will be provided through the Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing Program. Currently these programs in Oklahoma help veterans rent privately owned housing and these veterans generally contribute 30 percent or less of their income toward rent, which leaves them money for necessities.

This is a step in the right direction helping the people who served and protected our country, but still is it enough? After all, even here in our town we have many more veterans who are in dire need of monetary assistance.
