Before the final down of the State Championship football game last weekend in Yukon, OK, plans were being finalized for a way to honor the Highlanders.

City Councilman, Jay Burk, also part of the radio broadcast team, started putting feelers out about the possibility of having a parade honoring what could have been for both the 6A-2 and class 5A State Champions.  Lawton High School came up just short with a Silver Ball a day before the big game.  A celebration this big took a lot of planning, and it has finally become a reality.

This Friday evening at 4:45pm, entries in the parade will leave Central Mall for a parade North on 2nd Street to Ferris, Turn West on Ferris into Elmer Thomas Park.  There will be bleachers set up next to the pavilion where dignitaries including Rep. Ann Coody (former MacArthur Principal), Senator Don Barrington, and City Council Representative Jay Burk will honor the Highlanders with speeches and a city proclamation.
