1974. The United States is still in a gas shortage which began in October of the previous year. President Nixon had to resign in disgrace in August. His successor, Gerald R. Ford gave him a full pardon the following month. Rubik's cube was the puzzle craze. Milk only cost $1.57 and to mail a letter would take a mere $0.08. On the radio, country was as strong as ever. Artists like Ronnie Milsap, T.G. Sheppard, Conway Twitty and Freddy Fender were on the charts and coming out of the speakers in cars, homes and in the transistor radio's on the go.
