If the latest rumor regarding Alien: Covenant proves to be true, then you should definitely turn back now because this could be a potentially major spoiler. A new report offers additional details on Katherine Waterston’s role in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus follow-up, in which she plays the commander of a derelict crew — we already knew that, of course, but what we didn’t know is that there just might be something more to Waterston’s part.

We recently got our first look at Waterston’s character via an official photo from the set of Alien: Covenant, in which the actress was sporting shorter hair and hiding out in a hallway (possibly on her ship), holding what appeared to be a pretty big gun. Yep, seems like an Alien movie.

Here’s where the potential spoilers come in: According to The Playlist, Waterston has a more crucial role in the overall Alien universe. The site’s sources claim that the actress is playing the mother (or eventual mother) of Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley. That’s wacky enough to be true, but it also makes sense given Ridley Scott’s plan to directly connect Prometheus to Alien via these new prequels. Having Waterston play Ripley’s mom is a really overt connection, and — if true — more than a little heavy-handed, but when’s the last time you accused Ridley Scott of nuance?

Alien: Covenant hits theaters on August 4, 2017.
