Sam Grow is letting Taste of Country readers hear his new song before it's available anywhere else. He looks back at a relationship with a long backstory on "History."

The lyrics capture the universal emotions of a relationship that seems to have run its course, but the people involved can't quite let it go.

"We've got history, we've got broken hearts / Got a tendency to take a mistake too far ... 'cause history repeats, history repeats itself," he sings in the ultra-catchy chorus.

Cam Montgomery, Mike Hardy and Nick Donley wrote "History." The song juxtaposes a classic country theme with a sheen of modern production but keeps the focus on the lyrics and storytelling.

“There are many things I love about country music but what I love the most is how real and relatable it is. I think all of us have had those in and out kind of relationships that are difficult to let go of... this song is for all of those people dealing with that," Grow says.

The Maryland native's earliest musical experiences go back to playing in church when he was five years old, and his father gave him his first guitar when he was in his teens. Within years he was making music his biggest priority, touring and playing wherever and whenever he could. Some of those early gigs included playing for tips in a local bar on Wednesday nights. “I would have to sneak in because I was definitely not old enough to be in there,” he says with a grin.

He moved to Nashville in 2013 and signed his first songwriting publishing deal with ole Music Publishing, releasing his self-titled debut EP in 2014. He recently signed with Average Joes Entertainment, which is set to release his full-length album in spring of 2019.

"History" is the first single from that project, and it's currently available for pre-order along with another song titled "Boots." Both will be available for purchase on Friday (Feb. 1) beginning at 12AM.
