Scotty McCreery was given the dutiful task of singing the National Anthem before the Denver Broncos vs. New York Giants game on Sunday (Oct. 15), and he certainly delivered.

The country singer took to the turf at the Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Denver before the big game to perform an understated rendition of the anthem, standing before a giant American flag spread out on the field. McCreery brought his deep voice and country twang to the famed song, sounding calm and steady as he hit the big notes in front of massive crowd of 76,000 fans inside the packed stadium.

The singer had a tall order to fill, but he did so modestly and with grace, performing an honorable rendition of the challenging song.

These Country Singers Will Always Stand for the Anthem

The American Idol winner experienced another major life event recently — he proposed to his girlfriend Gabi Dugal on Sept. 26. He asked for her hand in marriage during a hike up Grandfather Mountain in the couple's native North Carolina. The pair met in kindergarten, but didn't start dating until they were seniors in high school. They plan to wed in 2018.

“My fans instantly embraced Gabi once they learned we were dating and have always been loving towards her,” McCreery says. “When she graduated college last year, many of them brought me gifts for her at my shows and book signings. I will always appreciate their kindness to her.”

McCreery's current single, "Five More Minutes," is currently in the Top 30 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart.
