A man suspected of robbing Scotty McCreery and his friends in 2014 has plead guilty to the charges.

On Monday (June 27), 21-year-old Mikkail Jamal Shaw pleaded guilty to several counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon and second-degree kidnapping, according to Raleigh, N.C.'s News & Observer; however, he refused to identify or give any additional information about the two others who were involved in the incident.

The robbery occurred back in May of 2014, at around 2AM, in an apartment near the North Carolina State University campus. The American Idol winner and his friends had brought home food and were watching a movie when they heard a knock at the door; thinking it was a neighbor, one of McCreery's friends opened the door, and the robbers barged in. One held an assault rifle to one of McCreery's friend's chests, and another put a pistol to McCreery's head, before making off with wallets, cell phones and a laptop, among other items.

“This is real and raw, and I’m thinking I’m going to die any second,” McCreery recalls of the incident in his new book, Go Big or Go Home. Fortunately, no one was injured, and Shaw was arrested just two days after the robbery, after turning himself in to police. The other two suspects are still at large.

Shaw is set to be sentenced on Tuesday (June 28). Jury selection for his trial was scheduled to begin on Monday. McCreery did not attend Shaw's plea hearing, but he was on a potential list of witnesses; his mother Judy did appear at the hearing.
