Memorial Day is a day of remembering.   Lawton/Ft. Sill had another opportunity to honor one of our own this Memorial Day, as  2nd Lieutenant Tobias Alexander's body was returned to Fort Sill.

Many people lined the sides of Ft. Sill Blvd. both on and off post as the Hearse carrying his body left the Ft. Sill  Airfield and made its way to the Funeral Home.  Some waved flags, while others simply stood in humble silence as the procession passed.  What a sight to see the 'Freedom Riders'  in the procession!  What took 5 minutes of our morning made a lasting impression on my heart.

Later, my Momma, brother and I visited the cemetery where my Dad, SFC Bobby Lee Benefield is buried.  My dad wasn't killed in action, but his service to our country lasted over 20 years, and is certainly valuable.  What an honor to be part of a military family!  And now that pride extends to my only Son, Tyler, only 4 weeks away from completing the AIT portion of Basic Training.

How did you spend your Memorial Day?
