Steve Wariner is mourning the loss of his father. On Sunday (July 9), the singer-songwriter shared via social media that his dad, Roy Monroe Wariner, had died on Friday (July 7).

Wariner says in an Instagram post that his father "died peacefully ... in Jamestown, Ky." The elder Wariner's obituary reveals that he was 88 years old and living at the Fair Oaks Nursing Home.

"Thank you all so very much for your prayers, kindness and condolences. It is very much appreciated," Wariner writes. "He was certainly my hero and inspiration and will forever be missed."

Roy Wariner was born on Aug. 21, 1928 in Champaign, Ill. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a music teacher; Steve Wariner got his start playing in his father's band. Roy Wariner and his wife Ilene had six children together: Steve, Larry, Kenny, David, Terry and Barbara.

Roy Wariner's visitation and funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday (July 11), at the Bernard Funeral Home Chapel in Russell Springs, Ky. Visitation will take place 10AM-2PM, and the funeral will follow at 2PM. He will be laid to rest at the Jamestown Cemetery, with full military honors, with the Russell County Honor Guard in attendance.
