The Lawton City Hall has installed additional security and screening with an X-Ray Machine. Needless to say it's pissed a lot of people off and they've taken to the City's Facebook page in protest.

The Lawton City Council just voted and approved giving the FISTA (FIRES Innovation Science and Technology Accelerator) project an additional 2 million dollars. So what will this money be used for?

The results are in from yesterday's election for Lawton Mayor and the open Ward 2 city council seat. Stan Booker has won re-election and will be serving a second term as Mayor. The Ward 2 city council seat remains in play.

Here's your chance if you've even considered running for a city office. Over the past year or so there's been a lot of complaints and at times complements for our current Mayor and City Council members. The City of Lawton just posted a video that answers a lot of the questions you may have about becoming an elected official and the steps you'll need to take to get there.

This past Tuesday (03-23-21) the city council met and voted to repeal Lawton's mask mandate. The updated or revised city ordinance (21-07) eliminated the requirements for local businesses to post COVID-19 and face mask signage. The ordinance also ended the mandatory mask mandate as well. Since then the City of Lawton has issued a statement concerning the wearing of face masks in city owned buildings, properties and facilities. The mask mandate may have been repealed but you'll still be required to wear a face mask and/or covering when visiting, or going into any City of Lawton site or facility.

Yesterday afternoon (03-23-21) the Lawton City Council met and voted to repeal Lawton's mask mandate, effective immediately. You will no longer be required to wear a face mask or covering while indoors at commercial properties, businesses and other locations in town. The same goes for outdoors at city parks and other "open to the public" general use areas within city limits. Of course with this being a highly controversial issue and opinions running from one extreme to the other it's caused a lot of friction and concern among citizens. Some say it's too soon, others say it should have never been mandated.

The City of Lawton is purchasing the Central Mall for the FISTA (FIRES Innovation Science and Technology Accelerator) project. The Lawton City Council met last Friday (12-18-20) in a special session to finalize the purchase of the mall at a price tag of 14.6 MILLION! They'll be closing on it Tuesday, January 5th (01-05-21).

The City of Lawton held another virtual Town Hall meeting yesterday (12-10-20) on the city's official Facebook page. The event featured a panel of health experts and community leaders to discuss the current COVID-19 situation in Lawton, Fort Sill. The news broke late yesterday evening, or at least that's when I first heard about it. The City of Lawton is considering purchasing the Central Mall for the FISTA (FIRES Innovation Science and Technology Accelerator) program. The Lawton City Council will be meeting today (10-16-20) at 2:00pm CST in a special session to discuss the possible purchase of the mall. So what's the price tag? 14.6 MILLION!

Yesterday afternoon (10-13-20) the Lawton City Council voted to keep the mandatory mask ordinance in effect until mid January of 2021. That will be the earliest or next time the members will review the ordinance to amend or remove it.

Lawton City Hall The Lawton City Council will be meeting today in regular session at 2:00pm CST to discuss and vote on possibly ending the mandatory mask ordinance. All citizens are encouraged to voice their opinions, as well as local and area businesses. The meeting will be held in the auditorium at Lawton City Hall in downtown located at: 212 S.W. 9th street, on the corner of 9th and C Ave.

Yesterday the city council met to hear arguments both for and against the city's mandatory face mask ordinance. The mask ordinance went into effect back on July 17th (07-17-20) when the council passed the new mandate and it remains in effect currently. Those apposed asked the council back on July 28th (07-28-20) to repeal the measure and yesterday's meeting was an acknowledgement of that.
