1993   Welcome To The Hall The Nashville Songwriters Hall Of Fame inducts Don Schlitz ("The Gambler" and "On The Other Hand"), Red Lane ("My Own Kind Of Hat" and "'Til I Get It Right") and Conway Twitty.

This was a very good day for Conway Twitty.  On this day in 1979, he had a 3 week run at the number one spot with 'I May Never Get to Heaven', but that wasn't our choice for KLAW Classic.

Who would have thought that a Pointer Sister's hit could make the crossover to country?

Today's KLAW Classic is most known as the signature song for Conway Twitty.

It was the 35th and Final Solo Number One for Conway Twitty, but he would reach the top of the Billboard Country Charts 5 more times with his duet partner Loretta Lynn. How many artists can pull off a Bette Midler, The Eagles, and a Pointer Sisters song?  Well, none other than Conway did all three!  'The Rose' from Bette Midler, 'Heartache Tonight' from The Eagles, and today's KLAW Classic from The Pointer Sisters.

Could you imagine the classic Conway Twitty song 'Hello Darlin' with Conway singing the first line? Well, neither could producers for today's KLAW Classic.  For some reason, singing the line just didn't work, so they suggested Conway speak the line, and the rest in history...

Did you know that Conway Twitty had his own city?  Well, at least it was nicknamed 'Twitty City'!  Conway Twitty owned a home in Henderson Tennessee that was dubbed 'Twitty City' for all of the displays on his property.

This week's Saturday morning K-LAW Classic was #1 39 years ago today - August 18th, 1973.

Although its sultry style recalls the Pointer Sisters' first Top Ten hit, "Slow Hand" was not written for the group; in fact John Bettis would state "the Pointer Sisters were the furthest act from his mind".
