Yes, that Tony Stewart.  Three time Nascar Champ (2002, 2005, 2011) Tony Stewart.  It was 7 years ago when 'Smoke' last raced the red clay oval of Lawton's hallowed race tract.  It was wall to wall folks in the stand too.

Tulsa police have announced that they are investigating an incident that occurred Friday night, after an off-duty Sheriff's officer heckled NASCAR star Tony Stewart, and the driver climbed into the stands to confront him.

It has been well over a week since the tragic accident at a race track in New York saw the loss of the life of a young race car driver, Kevin Ward Jr.

UPDATE - Tony Stewart will not race in today's NASCAR Sprint Cup event at Watkins Glen. Regan Smith will replace him.

Just a little over a month ago, Tony Stewart raced in front of thousands of fans here at the Lawton Speedway.  Today he is resting at a hospital in Iowa after suffering a couple of broken bones thanks to a crash in the Front Row Challenge at the Southern Iowa Speedway.

Tony Stewart drove all day as he normally does and that's aggressive which got him in first place and then with 71 laps to go, Stewart got and un-expected gift from Mother Nature as the race was called  due to rain and Stewart was named the winner the NASCAR Auto Club 400 at Fontana, California.

Tony Stewart won at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway over the weekend. He said, “I'm not sure we had the dominant car today, but we had an awful fast Chevy,” he continued, “I m just glad to finally get one at Vegas."
