Devastating news from California today as actor Michael Jace allegedly shot and killed his wife in their L.A. home on Monday night, May 19. TMZ reports that the couple's two children -- both under the age of 10 -- witnessed the unimaginable act.

Jace, who was best known for his role as gay police officer Julien Lowe on 'The Shield,' has been charged with murder, Fox News reports. According to TMZ, it was Lowe himself who called police to confess to the crime, telling police: "I shot my wife." April Jace was found dead in the home when the police responded to the call.

LAPD Lieutenant John Jenal confirmed to the L.A. Daily News that the couple's children were in the home at the time of the shooting, and are currently in protective custody.

Jace and his wife had been married for 9 years.

In addition to his role on 'The Shield,' Jace also played Michael Jordan in a 1999 TV movie about the basketball star, and had small roles in 'Forrest Gump' and 'State of Play.' His last role was a recurring part in 'Southland.'
